When To Use This Document

Use this document when you are having a power issue on your unit and need to trouble shoot a JPS720 or JPS360 Power System.


Prerequisites

  • General knowledge of Battery and Voltmeter
  • JACO Power System
  • Unplug Recharge cord from Power outlet


Tools Needed

  • Phillips Screwdriver
  • Volt Meter with DC/AC capabilities


Process / Instructions

It is recommended to be near a wall AC outlet during the troubleshooting. Always unplug the recharge cord from the wall outlet before disconnecting any wire connectors on the power system.


Record Battery Voltage measurements as instructed to pinpoint failed component. If a voltmeter is not available, JACO can provide a Jvolt-Kit. The kit consists of a voltmeter with a 10-pin adapter cable. E-mail us at Support@jacoinc.com to request a Jvolt-Kit.

Cart Test

Testing the Power System using the LEDS on the Cart.
1. Lock the brake on the front casters.
2. Remove the  2 big screw using the Phillips screw driver on the rear of the cart holding the power system.
3. Disconnect all AC line cords that are plugged into the power systems AC outlets.
4.Slide the Battery system away from the cart.
5.Turn the Power System so that the fan is facing you.




Bench Test

Testing the Power System on the bench with spare LEDS.
1.Lock the brake ont he front castesr.
2.Remove the 2 big screws using the Phillips screw driver on the rear of the cart holding the power system.
3.Disconnect all AC line cords that are plugged into the power systems AC outlets.
4.Slide the battery system away from the cart.
5.Lift the system and pace it on the bench.
6.Turn the Power system so that the fan is facing you.


  1. Voltage Measurements
    1. Set Voltmeter to measure VDC(Direct Current) as shown in Fig.1
    2. Make sure the Black Prong Connector is plugged into COM and the Red is plugged into V. Do not plug the RED into the A/Amp.
    3. If voltmeter battery is low, it may give incorrect readings.
  2. Open Circuit Voltage (OCV):
    1. Place the Red lead alongside the cable red/white wire or bottom right most position located on the battery connector as shown in Fig.1.
    2. Place black lead alongside the cable black/white wire or bottom left most position located on the battery connector as shown in Fig. 1.
    3. Record this reading as OCV = ____.
  3. Charge Voltage (CV):
    1. Keep the leads in place as the OCV step. Plug the Recharge Cord into the Wall Outlet. Refer to Fig.2.
    2. Record this reading as CV = ____.

Note: Charge voltage should be higher than battery voltage.






 AC output Test, Voltmeter Setup

  1. Set meter to measure AC(alternating Current) or VAC as shown in Fig.3.




  1. AC Outlet Voltage Test
    1. Turn the system around with the AC outlets facing you.
    2. Turn the power switch to the on position.
    3. Insert red lead into upper slot. See Fig.3
    4. Insert Black lead into bottom slot. See Fig.3
    5. Record the reading as VAC = _____.

Note: Sometimes the lead will not touch the AC contacts when inserted straight in, it may have to be tilted or angled.
